Call for Papers: War in the Steppe - WAWIC 2025 War in the Steppe - Characteristics and Modalities of Conflict in Palmyra This panel, part of the War in the Ancient World International Conference 2025 (WAWIC 2025), invites contributions exploring the military organization and activities of ancient Palmyra, a pivotal cultural and trade hub in the Syrian steppe. Topics may include strategies for protecting trade caravans, the role of Palmyrene auxiliary units within the Roman Empire, and the representation of Palmyrene military culture in epigraphy, iconography, and monumental architecture.
