Call for Papers: On Desertion - WAWIC 2025
On Desertion: Social Aspects and Representations of Non-Participation in Ancient Greek and Roman Warfare (WAWIC 2025)
This panel, part of the War in the Ancient World International Conference 2025 (WAWIC 2025), invites contributions investigating the phenomenon of desertion in ancient Greek and Roman warfare. By focusing on the dimension of non-participation in war and examining desertion as a multifaceted and socially significant act, this panel seeks to illuminate the marginalized aspects of ancient military history and provide a nuanced understanding of its social dynamics.
Scholars at all career stages are encouraged to submit proposals for 20-minute presentations in English. Submissions should include a title, a 300-word abstract, and a brief bio. Please send proposals to the panel organizers and Dr. Lennart Gilhaus (lgilhaus@uni-bonn.de) by January 15, 2025.
