Der Autor*innen-Workshop findet im Rahmen des geplanten transdisziplinären Themenheft 2025/02 "Sexualitäten im Mittelalter – Normen und Devianz, Phantasien und Praktiken" der Zeitschrift "Das Mittelalter" statt. Die beteiligten Autor*innen erhalten Gelgenheit zur Präsentation und Diskussion ihrer Beiträge sowie zum Austausch von Anmerkungen und Anregungen.

How did late Romans experience disasters and military conflicts? Many scholars argue that these events contributed to the Empire's decline. However, this presentation offers a different perspective, focusing on how disasters affected individuals and their relationships. How did disasters impact social networks and force people into new dependencies? The talk will explore these questions and suggest that outcomes for survivors were often influenced by emerging structures of dependency, such as the ransom market.

Am Tag der offenen Tür „Geschichtliche Landeskunde der Rheinlande an der Universität Bonn“ stehen Mitarbeiter*innen von vier Abteilungen der Universität Bonn bereit, um mit Ihnen aktuelle Projekte und Forschungen zu diskutieren: die Abteilungen Geschichte der Frühen Neuzeit und Rheinische Landesgeschichte sowie Historische Grundwissenschaften und Archivkunde; die Arbeitsstelle Rheinische Sprachforschung; und die Abteilung für Vor- und Frühgeschichtliche Archäologie. Mit dabei sind auch unsere außeruniversitären Kooperationspartner*innen: der Verein für geschichtliche Landeskunde der Rheinlande, das LVR-Institut für Landeskunde und Regionalgeschichte, das LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn sowie der Blog „Histrhen. Rheinische Geschichte wissenschaftlich bloggen“. Um 11.00 und um 15.00 Uhr wird es eine Führung durch unsere Bibliothek geben, bei der wir Ihnen Einblicke in unsere Bestände und Raritäten geben werden. Auch ein Bücherflohmarkt ist vorgesehen. Eine Anmeldung ist nicht erforderlich.

We are pleased to announce the WAWIC 2025 - Warfare in the Ancient World International Conference, a hybrid event connecting researchers worldwide to share insights on ancient warfare. It will take place in-person in Duluth, MN, and Münster, Germany, with selected panels connected via Zoom for seamless engagement. We welcome submissions on any aspect, era, or region of ancient warfare, with a focus on the Greco-Roman world, the ancient Near East, Egypt, and neighboring cultures. Contributions from archaeological, philological, and historical perspectives are encouraged. The conference is open to doctoral students, early-career researchers, and established scholars. Proposals for individual papers (20-minute max) and thematic panels are invited. Abstracts (300 words) and a brief bio should be sent to Lennart Gilhaus (lgilhaus@uni-bonn.de) by January 15, 2025. Online participation is possible, though in-person attendance is preferred.

Plunder and Postliminium: the Laws of Looting in Ancient Warfare - WAWIC 2025 This panel, part of the War in the Ancient World International Conference 2025 (WAWIC 2025), invites contributions bringing together a set of perspectives on how states and generals imposed limits (whether real or theoretical) to wartime looting and what recompense was made for victims of wartime plunder. For this reason, we encourage proposals that highlight the different perspectives with regard to the topic of looting in the Classical Greek, Hellenistic and Roman worlds. Der Westfälische Frieden von 1648 – Modell für das 21. Jahrhundert oder Friedensutopie? Das Theater Bonn, das Bonner Zentrum für Versöhnungsforschung sowie das Zentrum für Historische Friedensforschung der Universität Bonn bringen in der Kooperationsveranstaltung "Versöhnung – Eine Utopie?" Kunst und Wissenschaft zusammen und diskutieren das utopische Potenzial von Versöhnung am Beispiel des Westfälischen Friedens. Prof. Dr. Michael Rohrschneider diskutiert hierbei die (enttäuschten) zeitgenössischen Hoffnungen, mit den Verträgen von Münster und Osnabrück einen dauerhaften Frieden zu schaffen und stellt die Frage, ob der Blick zurück in das 17. Jahrhundert dabei helfen kann, Friedenslösungen für die Ukraine oder den Nahen und Mittleren Osten zu finden. Schauspielerinnen und Schauspieler des Ensembles begleiten den Vortrag mit literarischen und szenischen Beiträgen.
